From 2020 I will work together with my colleague dr. O. Palouček on a three-year research project called Post-socialist Transformation of Czech Primary Schools – Processes, Stories, Dilemmas (funded by the Czech Science Foundation, grant no. 20-11275S).
Abstract:
The project focuses on the everyday life of a primary school and changes it underwent in the period of the post-socialist transformation. Historical-pedagogical research is based on the oral history method, which will be used to collect data on the changes in the daily life of a school, but also on the life and work of the key actors in the transformation – the teachers. The oral history method will be complemented by the study of available contemporary documents (such as reform proposals or legislation). The project realisation is based on the historiographic approach of the history of everyday life and social anthropology. The project builds on previous research focused on socialist primary education during the normalisation period. As a result, it will be possible to put the new findings on the transformation of socialist education into the context of changes in socialist education, which will provide a more comprehensive knowledge and a deeper understanding of the transformation processes. The main output of the project will be a scientific monograph.
